Deborah Reich is a native of Jasper County Illinois. She and her husband live in the small farming community of Newton, Illinois where they chased two daughters through 20 plus years of busy school and athletic schedules. Having survived those hectic years, she is learning to enjoy the empty nest and finds herself asking, “What next?”.
Over the years, Deborah has had the lucky opportunity to do her artwork on many levels while working as a teacher’s aide and a full time wife and mother. In addition to countless bulletin boards, she has worked on murals at the elementary and junior high schools in Jasper County. She continues to work on private and commercial pieces from dinosaurs to landscapes.
With a mutual friend bringing them together in 1995, Deborah was able to illustrate two books in collaboration with Christine McCormick. The first was Little Books from A – Z published by Good Year Books. Then a few years later they were able to work together on A Sound Start published by the Guilford Press. Both books are currently in print with sales growing.
Each summer off from school brought Deborah an opportunity to spend more time on her art. During the summer of 2000, she had the experience of working part time at a local memorial shop. She soon found her drawing skills transferred easily to portraiture as well as etching on granite, glass and wood. Drawing portraits and glass etching continue to be a source of enjoyment for her.
Deborah was soon approached by Dan and Sonya Webb, the new owners of their own winery. They needed a design for a wine label and graphic logo for their business, Cameo Vineyards, located in Greenup, Illinois. The design Deborah created was a success and has earned a place throughout their production from labels, logos and T-shirts to wood etchings. The label was recently entered into the state competition where it received an award of merit for best use of historic or scenic theme. Cameo Vineyards is currently promoting Deborah’s etched wine bottles as well.
With all of these exciting prospects at hand, Deborah began her own business in 2002. Bumble Bee Inks offers all of these skills and more. She’s enjoying a rising interest in her work and has stayed busy with mural painting and glass etching. She loves the challenge of creating an artistic solution to a wide variety of needs.
Deborah owes much of her success to the love and support of her husband, Brian; her daughters, Heather and Coryn; and her family and friends for which she is truly grateful.
